What a joyful experience to attend a rehearsal in Chattanooga this past weekend in preparation for the upcoming SUMMIT gathering of Tennessee Baptists in that city in just a few weeks. Saturday’s rehearsal of choir members from several Chattanooga area churches was just flat out fun. The choir reflects some of the diversity among Tennessee Baptists. There was a good core of singers from one of our newest TBC churches – just accepted into the Hamilton Baptist Association the week before. This predominantly African-American church is growing and very much alive. Their worship minister will serve to lead Wednesday morning music sessions during the annual meeting in Chattanooga on November 13. In the aforementioned rehearsal provisions had been made for those who read music, and for those who learn and sing more by rote. From what I understand about churches represented by this combined choir there would be different theological emphases likely stressed in the different environments. The beautiful thing in this time of praise Saturday was that differences were not the central theme – rather, praising Jesus and ministering the Gospel through song was the focus. Well done.
I hope you are planning to be at this year’s annual meeting and related events. WE NEED YOU. Members of Tennessee Ladies Chorus and especially Tennessee Mens Chorale are needed to encourage the same kind of environment we experienced last Saturday. Please register to sing and serve with us. I am confident that you, like me, believe there is power in music used by the Holy Spirit to bring people together around the worship and praise of our Lord. The result is powerful witness to HIS POWER to do something that nothing else can do – bring us together. Register today at www.tnworshipandmusic.org
